Brazil and Portugal battle to 0-0 tie

DURBAN — In a match with few highlights, Brazil and Portugal battled to a scoreless tie, but both teams were able to advance to the round of 16 as they ended Gorup G play in Moses Mabhada Stadium.

With the tie, Brazil, the five-time World Cup champions, reached seven points to claim the group’s first place. It will now face Group H runnerup Chile, while Portugal will meet Group H winner Portugal.

Both teams, already assured of advancing, played a game with few risks and resulted in listless play.

“This was a very difficult match against one of the tournament’s best teams, and I think it was an excellent encounter. We will see who will be our opponent in the round of 16, pero it doesn’t matter much because we have faith in our skills and we are very confident about what we face in the tournament.”- Cristiano Ronaldo, forward for Portugal
