Match of the day:JOHANNESBURG - David Villa, a striker for world powerhouse Barcelona, scored twice as Spain got back on track with a 2-0 win in Group H at Ellis Park.
Villa was hailed by his Spaniard teammates when he outsmarted three opponents for a 1-0 advantage in the 17th minute of the match against Honduras. Honduras' goalie Noel Valladares nearly blocked or deflected the shot but was unable to prevent the ball from reaching the net.
Villa scored his second goal in the 51st minute off a pass from Jesús Navas for the eventual 2-0 win.
It was Villa's fifth career goal with Spain's national team.
Spain suffered a 1-0 loss to Switzerland. The Spaniards felt the loss was an upset and the road to the World Cup is back on track after today's victory.
An interesting fact about the Honduras squad is on the Palacios brothers. Jhonny, a 23-year-old central defender, Jerry, a 28-year-old attacking midfielder, and Wilson, a 25-year-old , all suited up for the Hondurans. Another brother who would be 18 now, Edwin, was kidnapped shortly after starting his career in the youth teams. The criminals murdered him after the raid on the family home, even though the ransom was paid. "Edwin guides us from heaven," says Jerry Palacios.
Quote: "To be playing for Honduras in our first World Cup in 28 years is incredible, but being able to share it with my brothers is a gift from God," said attacking midfielder Jerry Palacios.
