With a lot of heart, effort and determination, the Pumas of UNAM crowned themselves Clausura 2009 Tournament champions after a 2-2 tie against Pachuca that capped a 3-2 global triumph.
The game had all the dramatic flair of a championship and had all the necessary ingredients for a closely matched contest until the final minute. There was a little of everything. Goals, a penalty, an expulsion, a changing score and, in extra time, the tension mounted and the suspense was there in trying to figure out which team would be the new champion.
Sunday's match was classified as the Sixth Star, because both teams had five championships under their belt and looking to add one more.
For UNAM coach Ricardo 'Tuca' Ferriti, this was his second title. His first one came as coach of the Chivas of Guadalajara against a now vanished Toros Neza squad coached then by Enrique 'Ojitos' Meza, Pachuca's current coach.
The Tuzos of Pachuca were in their seventh championship match, but could not win at home and cap off a season in which it was the league tournament's super leader.
