More than $10.3 million in government grants will be spent sprucing up farmworker housing in Stanislaus County.
Private contractors will rehabilitate the 178 residential units, mostly duplexes and townhouses. New kitchens, bathrooms, heating and air conditioning systems and exterior paint will be included in the work.
The housing agency has been awarded $6,567,185 in state money from bonds approved by voters. The U.S. Department of Agriculture contributed $3 million, and $750,000 came from other government sources.
The money will be spent remodeling 91 housing units in Modesto, on Boise and Algen avenues and Hatch Road; 54 units in Ceres, on Glenda Road and Donna, Freda and Linda ways; and 33 units on Chase Street in Patterson.
