Benito Juárez: A lasting legacy

Benito Juárez's most famous quotation, made on July 15, 1867, was: "Among individuals, as among nations, respect for the rights of others is peace."

Juárez, who served as Mexican president from 1858 to 1872, remains the country's only indigenous president.

Last Friday, varous Latino leaders -- like Assemblymember Juan Arámbula, I-Fresno; Fresno County Supervisor Henry R. Perea; Mexican Cónsul Reyna Torres; and, Rufino Domínguez, executive director of the Binational Center for the Development of Oaxacan Indigenous Communities -- paid tribute to Juárez at Courthouse Park on the 204th anniversary of his birth.
