One person has died following the rupture of a steam line inside a science building at Duke University.
University officials said the explosion occurred Wednesday afternoon inside the mechanical room at the school's Levine Research Science Center.
Employees were evacuated from the building, and officials said it had received reports of a significant amount of water pooling in the building's basement.
The identify of the person killed was not immediately released. The school planed a news conference to provide additional details.
The 341,000-square-foot Levine center houses classrooms, laboratory space and offices for several science departments.
