Costa’s vote raises some eyebrows among Valley Latinos

A day after Congressman Jim Costa stood up on the House floor to espouse the contributions of Dreamers and the importance of protecting about 800,000 of them through the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, the Fresno Democrat voted for a temporary spending bill that did not include legislation to protect them.

Dreamers Bus Tour across California stops in the Central Valley

A coalition of organizations led by United We Dream launched a whistle-stop bus tour of key Congressional offices across California on Jan. 11-12. Immigrant youth, United We Dream, CPD Action, Center for Community Change, Mi Familia Vota, MoveOn.org, National Domestic Workers Alliance, SEIU California, Mobilize the Immigrant Vote California, and UndocuMedia are calling on Members of Congress to support the Dream Act and protect immigrant youth from Trump’s deportation machine. The bus traveled to the offices of key Republican incumbents, including Rep. David Valadao in Hanford, and Rep. Jeff Denham in Modesto. The bus tour featured rallies and press conferences outside their offices, along with meetings with elected officials and staffers. Congress faces a deadline to pass a continuing resolution by January 19th or risk a government shutdown.
