Reyes is a huge part Lucha Libre USA

Female wrestler Rebecca Reyes grew up playing classical piano and attending parochial school.

Lizmark Jr. -- who stands 6-foot-2 and weighs 260 pounds -- is the son of a famous Mexican lucha libre wrestler.

The two had nothing in common with each other, until their worlds collided in 'Lucha Libre: Masked Warriors' on the MTV2 television network. The program, which was filmed in Arizona, airs on Saturdays.

Reyes and Lizmark are the newest chapter in the popular pro wrestling that has been a Mexican staple for decades.

Reyes, now in her second season in Lucha Libre USA, wears a black, leather bikini while tangling next to a cast of face-painted fighters like Chi Chi, Magno, El Oriental and Lizmark Jr.

"I've been a fan since I was like 12 years old," said Reyes, who grew up in Queens, New York. "It's always been a passion of mine, but I never thought I would actually be doing it."

Reyes, who is Puerto Rican, entered lucha libre after broadcasting on Sirius XM radio about her life on Dragon Gate USA wrestling tour. She was then approached by Marco Leone, a Lucha Libre USA regular.

Reyes did an on-screen audition and was eventually signed to the MTV2 show.

The show's producers feel the notoriety has grown to the point that 'Masked Warriors: Season 3' warrants a U.S. Tour beginning in January.

Tour dates and stops have yet to be determined, but Reyes is nudging producers to make México City one of the stops. Reyes said Mexican fans continue to praise names like El Santo and Mil Máscaras at lucha arenas.

"I've heard of those names because they're the more mainstream guys my grandmother used to watch on TV," said Reyes, adding that her father, Benjamín, loves that she is in lucha libre.

Her mother, Mickey, however, is terrified that her daughter will get hurt.

The early 1930s, lucha libre featured heroes like Rodolfo Huerta (El Santo) and Aarón Rodríguez (Mil Máscaras), who became movie stars and the cornerstones of lucha libre.

Rey Misterio, a WWE fighter, helped promote the popularity of lucha libre in the United States by switching to American-based wrestling.

After competing in México City, on Aug. 6, Reyes says she felt the passion of the fans on her 25th birthday.

"It's a whole different universe there," she said. "The fans are so invested in it, and there's so much culture. It's an amazing experience to compete and feed off the crowd over there. When I wrestled there, they had a mariachi come out and sing me Happy Birthday!"

In the MTV2 series, fans might notice that Rebecca is married to 'El Pequeño Halloween,' but she admits it's a show storyline.

"I was drugged and I'm now married," Rebecca said, not breaking character. "And, not believing in divorce, I'm trying to make the marriage work."

Reyes believes Lucha Libre's storylines and colorful characters will continue to grow in more parts of the U.S. (it's now viewed in India).

"Wrestling is a worldwide phenomenon. I think it's really cool to broaden our audience, and be able to bring like a different flavor. Lucha Libre USA brings a different variety to wrestling," said Reyes.

Lizmark Jr., son of Lizmark, plays a rudo, a bad guy in Lucha Libre USA.

By age 18, Lizmark Jr. was following in his father's career, competiting in arenas in México. Lizmark Jr. will be featured in 'Masked Warrior's Season 3.'

"I'm very happy that Lucha Libre is a popular sport in other countries. In the United States, it's risen with a lot of force," said Lizmark Jr.
